Tryfan goes to Prom

Even though we just got home this afternoon, Tryfs was able to quickly turn it around and get all dressed up to go to his Prom tonight.  Here are some photos from the action...

By all accounts it appears as though he had a great time!

Ischia - traveling home

It was sad to end our holiday on lovely Ischia, and it would get worse before it got better, but we did eventually make it home.  On Tuesday we had a pretty impressive storm for a lot of the day, which made for a beautiful sunset and a dramatic conclusion to our trip.

Wednesday morning was sunny and warm, and we left the hotel on time, got to the port and caught a ferry back to Naples.
In the background is Vesuvius which looks like it is steaming although I think it was just dramatic clouds in the vicinity.
We pulled up next to an enormous cruiseliner in the port!
Then we took a bus to the airport and arrived with 2.5 hours until our flight departure. Perfect!  But then after checking in, we saw our flight was delayed by 1 hour, then 2 hours, then 3 hours, then... cancelled.  yikes. So we joined the hundreds of other people to collect our checked baggage and figure out what to do next.  We couldn't get a flight that would get us home to England that night at all, but Rhiannon found us a flight the next morning that got us to Luton airport which is a train journey from home, so once that was sorted we found a place to lay our heads.  It wasn't in the nicest part of town...
In fact, it was pretty dodgy. But at least the 4 of us were in the same room which was clean and had air conditioning and a bathroom in the room, a television, WiFi and a lock on the door!  Good enough! We watched the Euro game of Portugal vs Georgia where Georgia won 2-0!
Today we made it home, safe and sound, and it was such a nice feeling to be home!

Ischia - final days

On Monday we chartered a boat with a skipper and mate to take us on a tour round the island.  It was a really clear day which got cloudy and a bit stormy towards the end of the day.  This was another huge highlight of the trip.

It was just so awesome to spend the day out on the water.
We went in the counter-clockwise direction so went along the north coast of the island first, then around to see Negombo from the water and actually we all went for a little swim at this point.

Saw some amazing geologic outcrops along the coast, just amazing!
And we called into Sant' Angelo again but this time we had lunch at La Pirata, which was quite good.

At the end of the day we got off the boat and the world kept moving for Tryfan and I (even into the next day we were feeling the sway of the sea). We got tidied up and went out to dinner to L'Paranza, where we had interesting fish dishes. Tryfan and Rhodri shared a "scorpionfish"

And the evening was just so lovely as we walked back to the hotel.
We watched the Euro 2024 football/ soccer games from the rooftop bar area, and that was really fun too.

Ischia - Sunday

On Sunday we took the bus to the other side of the island and went to hang out on the "Spiaggia del Maronti" beach over there, then poked around Sant' Angelo before taking the bus back to 'our part' of the island.  Rhiannon and I also each bought a dress today, which I am so happy about!  Unfortunately I don't have any photo of us two wearing our dresses and standing next to each other, but we looked good!

So we hung out at this orange umbrella beach, swam a bit and walked around, then took a boat taxi over to Sant' Angelo and explored around there, then boated back and had some late lunch.

And then we took the bus back to Ischia Porto and back to our hotel.  It was really fun to just tool around using public transport. Loved it.  Felt good to get back 'home' to the hotel and cool off in the pool, then amble down the road for some dinner at a lovely little cafe.

Negombo thermal magic

We spent all day today at the Negombo thermal park, and it was SO awesome!
There are about 16 thermal pools here, all different temperatures and designs, and very carefully laid out across the beachfront property.

The photos I took don't do it justice, and to be honest I didn't put too much effort into photos because I was blissed out exploring the park in my swimsuit and going from one amazing hot spring pool to the next. Wow.  We pretty much closed them down, too, and took a taxi back to the hotel to clean up before walking to dinner in the town area close to the hotel.
