Plaw Hatch Farm
Today we went to visit Plaw Hatch Farm, which is a community-owned biodynamic farm a few miles from where we live. They have a pretty well stocked shop selling vegetables, dairy products, and meat from their farm as well as a few extras. We drive past this place every day on the way to/ from work, and it was great to be able to actually go there and explore the farm. Here we are: Hattie, Charlie, Sarah, Joe, Tryfan, Valentin (in stroller), Gabriel, Nia, Rhiannon and me.
Here we are running past the roundhouse workshop on the way to a big patch of blackberries.
Picking said blackberries
Enormous gorgeousness
Charlie and Hattie had a great time running through the hay field. I love the dark skies against the golden hay field with the lush trees between and the stately mansion in the background.
There were two mama pigs and about 18 cute piglets that we watched for awhile before heading back towards the shop and the cars.
I didn't know anything about biodynamic farming until visiting this farm...here is their explanation of the term: "This means that we endeavour to run as a self contained farm in the sense that we aim to use only our own seeds and fertilisation and our own animal feed. We take advantage of the planetary rhythms for the planting and harvesting of all crops to enhance their vitality. Composting and the use of green manures ensures that fertility of the land is maintained. This is nothing new! It is how people used to farm."
