End of summer holiday
Today was a public holiday, and we had planned to go canoeing. However, it turned out to be a windy day that was better suited for kite flying than canoeing. We took Nain and Taid to our favorite kite flying site on a high spot in the Ashdown Forest (which has both woodland and heathland parts, this part being the latter).
We had tea and snacks that included some lollipops left over from Easter. Tryfan insisted on wearing his bike helmet all day even though he didn't spend any time with his bike.
Beanie hats are really good for keeping hair out of faces and especially out of one's sticky lollipop-juice-covered mouth area.
The kites we have are not in good condition, so Rhodri had to repair them before we left the house. He rigged up some bamboo to replace the plastic part that Tryfan and Rhiannon had destroyed to feed to their babies, but the bamboo was just a little bit too short and so the kites (especially one of them) kept diving to the left. These poor sheep were just trying to enjoy a quiet meal of grass and gorse but our pesky diving kite kept 'worrying' them.
After leaving Taid to play with the one semi-functioning kite alone, the rest of us played hide and seek in the bracken and gorse.
Most of the bracken is taller or as tall as Tryfan, so he liked to find hiding places in the middle of a thicket of bracken. Too bad his bike helmet wasn't camouflage color.
This week is when all the schools around here start back up, and Rhiannon will be starting school for the very first time on Friday!
