Last day in upper valley

We had a good night with a campfire and all that, and then we got up early to break camp and head back to the truck at the end of the road, 14 miles away. One part of the backcountry trip that I particularly loved was seeing all of the wildflowers -- it was like being reunited with old friends.
Clockwise from top left: Monkeyflower, Columbine, Indian Paintbrush, Tigerlily, Penstamen and more Tigerlilies

Beautiful lighting on evergreen trees in the upper valley
I meant to take a photo when my tent was still set up too, but anyway here was our campsite

Cute pine marten that I saw on the walk back

We made it to the truck by 12:30pm and were back to Grandma Bucky's by 1:30pm.
In the afternoon, we got cleaned up and unpacked and leisurely prepared for a big family dinner together, but then right as we were about to sit down to eat, a HUGE thunderstorm hit the valley! It rained buckets and all the power went out in the valley, so we had a lovely dinner by candlelight. There was also a mudslide which came down next to the old school -- we heard it come down but couldn't see it until we went for a walk after dinner.

Lower Rainbow Falls looked like chocolate milk!

It was a really special day from start to finish, and a good way to end all of our time together up there.
